December SacMoves Meeting: Discuss New Coalition Leadership

Dear SacMoves Coalition,

We are nearing our final 2024 coalition meeting on December 20th,  concluding yet another year of advocacy since this coalition’s inception in 2016 to organize support for Measure B. This measure, and all subsequent measures supporting transportation investment failed to garner enough voter support to pass, some for better, some for worse. Measure efforts continue to be a critical path forward for addressing our transportation funding challenges in the absence of appropriately funded transportation departments. In addition to our work on measures, the ebbs and flows of related transportation, land use, and climate issues have been met with efforts on behalf of our members in support of letter writing, public hearings, broad public education campaigns, and others.

As the number and breadth of challenges that inhibit our region from reaching its equity, safety, and climate goals increases, and so with it, the demand on advocates time, we are faced with increasingly challenging capacity issues. Deb Banks, Dan Allison, and myself have largely been leading the coalition since 2023 and have come to the decision that due to our own limited capacity, cannot continue in our present roles. This includes setting agendas, meeting facilitation, and strategic planning. We plan to discuss this more in the December meeting, but this email is to inform members, attendees, and those who have found benefit in SacMoves mission that we will be looking for new leadership to volunteer in December or we will be forced to relegate SacMoves to a non-active status until a cause arises where our efforts can once again be centered and address the issue.

It is our recommendation that at least two people make up this new leadership though we strongly encourage three people to share the workload and thought partnership. We will be available to support the transition into the new year and share any and all SacMoves files associated with the coalition.

Again, we will discuss this in greater detail in December but please consider your availability and interest in this opportunity. If anyone has any questions, please reach out to sacmoves.coalition@gmail.com

All the best,

David Moore
