The potential voter poll conducted by Sacramento Transportation Authority will be presented at the October 27 meeting of the SacRT Board, agenda item 5.1. We encourage SacMoves Coalition liaisons and individuals to attend this meeting, online or in-person, and perhaps to speak in support of funding.
No transportation sales tax measure has been put forth yet, but discussion is coalescing around a citizen’s measure for the City of Sacramento, half for road (and sidewalk) repair, and half for transit, primarily operations.
Polling indicates that voter support for an agency-sponsored measure is lacking, falling far short of the 2/3 majority required for agency measures to pass. Citizen’s initiatives only require 50% + 1 to pass. So, for 2026, an agency measure is off the table.
Polling also indicated that support was strongest in the City of Sacramento.
So that is why a citizen’s initiative for the City of Sacramento only is being discussed. However, no decisions have been made, by anyone.
Citizen’s initiatives are expensive, for signature gathering and promotion, and at this time, it is not clear where that money would come from.
