SacMoves Coalition

December 19 meeting, and transition

SacMoves Coalition will meet Friday, December 19, 2025, at 10:00 AM, online. The Zoom link will be sent a few days ahead, to those on the groups.io list and the old manual list. The link is not posted online.

The main topic of the meeting will be the transition of leadership for SacMoves. Deb Banks and Dan Allison, along with David Moore until he changed jobs, has been leading the organization for the last three plus years. As you may have heard, Deb Banks is retiring as Executive Director of SABA. Both Deb and Dan will be stepping down from leadership of SacMoves, offering the opportunity to others to step up.

If no one steps up, SacMoves Coaltion will go dormant until someone or some group steps up.

The tasks which Deb and Dan have been handling include:

  • Facilitation of meetings
  • Developing meeting agendas
  • Hosting Zoom meetings: the bi-monthly meetings on Zoom need a host with a paid account
  • Maintaining SacMoves calendar: this is the only transportation focused calendar in the region, though many organizations host calendars
  • Website posting: writing and soliciting posts for the SacMoves Coalition website/blog (this one); the website is on WordPress, so it will not disappear unless cancelled, but current website does require payment of about $140/year for domain and hosting
  • Maintain email lists: maintaining email lists on groups.io, and maintaining a separate manual list if the organization so desires
  • Attend Sacramento Transportation Authority meetings, track agendas, and present at STA
  • Draft updates to key SacMoves documents, including the Framework
  • Monitor and attend events of member organizations
  • Maintain LinkedIn page (we do not have any other social media presence)

Obviously these are not all equally important. What the organization needs to continue is the first three on the list.

SacMoves Coalition was formed in 2014 in an effort to improve the transportation sales tax measure being developed, which went on the ballot in 2016, and failed, as has every ballot measure since. We have made some progress over the years in better measures, but there is a long ways to go.

It appears increasingly unlikely that there will be a measure, agency sponsored or citizen initiative, in 2026, but it is quite likely that there will be something on the ballot in 2028.

The December meeting will also offer a brief update on funding ideas, and the chance for organization members and individuals to share.
